ELE Program Vision Statement
The vision of the English Learner (EL) program in the Bellingham Public Schools is to empower English learners to master social and academic English; to achieve academic success; to accomplish personal goals focused on college and career readiness; and to navigate our diverse local and global communities. We foster a supportive, inclusive environment that affirms and respects students’ cultural richness and linguistic assets.
ELE Program Mission Statement
The mission of the English Learner Education (ELE) Program in the Bellingham Public Schools is to provide research-validated, systematic, explicit, and sustained language instruction to English Learners (ELs), designed specifically to develop social, instructional, and academic language within the four language domains (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) in conjunction with subject matter content (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies). A language-focused ESL curriculum aligned to the WIDA English Language Development Standards and grade level core-content standards enables EL students to become successful individuals in the mainstream classroom, overall school environment, and community at large.
ELPAC
ELPAC is the English Learner Parent Advisory Committee. Parents of English learner students and former English learner students can learn about each other and our school community in Bellingham. Parents will be able to provide recommendations about our school programs and services provided to English learner students and families. We will meet a few times throughout the school year.
- Translation and interpretation services will be provided
- Children who need supervision are welcome to attend. We have activities for children to participate in while the adults are talking together.
- Food and drinks will be provided to everyone

Bellingham Food Pantry for Food Assistance/Free Food Pick Up at St. Blaise Catholic Church on Tuesdays from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at 1158 South Main St.

ACCESS for English Learners: ACCESS is an English Language proficiency assessment taken annually by English Learners in Massachusett Public Schools
What is ACCESS? The parent ACCESS guide explains each piece of score information included in the student report. Families can use this guide, available in several languages, to help understand what scores mean and how they are used. For questions about your child's ACCESS scores, please contact the ELE Teacher at your child's school.
